I was sad to hear that you were considered of leaving Islam but I am very please to know you changed your mind after Allah guided you through the help of people’s advice, my advice is pray to Allah he is the only one who can help us and we are muslims because of Allah’s blessing, if Allah wanted he could of made us anything but he made us the best of creation and that is us being humans then he sent us in the best ummah the ummah of prophet (saw) so many prophets asked Allah to send them in to this ummah but only Isa (a.s) (Jesus) prayer was accepted, then he gave us the best book the holy quran so be patience and inshallah Allah will reward you. pray for me and the whole ummah that Allah guides us on the straight path. ameen.

  13. Mashallah what a beautiful voice….

I have been reading through the comments and mashallah Sister Gina Subhanallah for reverting to Islam may Allah help you and always guide you on this path. Please remember that a lot of the Muslims that you see are those who are following Cultural Islam – it is something that they grew up with, what was told to them or what they saw – such as how men and women are treated, the roles of each, etc… Unfortunately that is not true Islam but culture in the name of Islam..

Alhumdulillah there is a wave of new generation that are following Islam the way that it is supposed to be followed.. We are now learning the proper Deen not just following what was taught by our forefathers.. Many times the true meaning of Islam is missed. Inshallah pray that one day all Muslims will be united in following the true deen and in having respect for one another and that everyone will once again live in peace and harmony as they once did regardless of race, religion or creed.

  16. Dear Gina,
We lead our life based on the Quran teaching and guidance. Out heart must be clean always and how do we do that as an ordinary human being?. Keep knocking ourselves whenever we sees or heard bad things that could make us analyst more and created unnecessary hurt. I always believe and keep telling myself these:
1.God made the world round and not square. This will make us to be more careful on what to say, what to see, what to hear, what to talk and what to do, where to go etc…
2.Everything in this world aren’t ours. This will make us a person without greed, accepting anything easily, tolerable, patient. believe in Qada and Qadar etc…(that is why, we should not cry when our families and friends passes away)
3.Good Intention(Nawaitu). Lead life with good intentions always and God will always be there for you.
    4. Learn to block or avoid your eyes, ears and mouth from looking, seeing and talking bad.

It is not easy…yes but keep this in mind and keep reminding ourselves , InsyaAllah, we are safe and bless.

If you are in Australia, I’d love to meet you and help you in any way I can. Most of my friends are reverts, so I think I know a bit about how you feel.

  26. Thank you so much Anonymous, may Allah bless you and your love ones. You are so right. When we face difficulties, we should turn to Allah instead of man. Humankind may disappoint and doubt us, but Allah is always there for us. I listen to this Surah almost everyday. Every time I hear it, I feel like the hands of Allah are washing me. I feel it in my body and soul.

I would like to hear the name of Allah recited. Is there a website where I can hear the 99 names of Allah recited? I feel the sheer power of these names, when I try to read them. I am an English speaker and I would like to learn how to say these names in Arabic. I have asked the Angels of Allah to help recite them. I read the English description of the names in awe of their power, beauty and mystery. It is like nothing on this earth. You can feel that these names are divine

    Sister Gina,

I hope you read this and remain on the true path. Although what you say is true you must remember that people are people; the depth of their faith will always reflect in their actions.

Yes, most people are bigoted, tribal, ethnic, and we put ourselves on a pedestal; chosen ourselves as the new chosen ones, and are content in that. If we were so chosen, why did our Nabi (SAW) and his Sahaba (RA) spend their days AND nights in prostration; trembling with fear and asking for forgiveness. They also led such wonderful lives that benefited orphans, the needy, widows, and their neighbors. Yes, we rest on their laurels and wait for Paradise.

It is very easy to be a Muslim, so much harder to be a Mu’min. Do not leave the right path because you see idiots on the wrong path. You may well be one of the few remaining Muslims around.

Read the Quran, the Sunnah, and the history of the Sahabah to understand Islam. Do not look for examples; there are none in this day and age. If listening to the Quran makes you cry, then your heart has been touched; rejoice, you are one of the chosen few.

    A brother in Islam.

  52. Hi Gina,

I can understand your feelings. There are many bad Muslims out there, and it is so sad to see. When I do go to Friday prayer in the masjid, which is not often, I’m sad to see the behavior of my Muslim sisters. Everyone is sticking with their own group and nationality. I’m from a bi-racial background, and I often feel left out. Like you said there is racism among Muslims, and many converts are not taken as serious Muslims or not as good as born Muslims. But this has no part in Islam. 1400 years ago, the Prophet came to abolish racism, which no figure had done in history before him. Abusing women has no part in Islam. As Karen Armstrong stated: The Prophet was a feminist and came to give women their rights. Islam is so beautiful but many Muslims are so ugly in their behavior and practices. I’ve seen many converts who practice Islam better than born Muslims. I think one of the main reasons Muslims are having it so hard around the world since 911, is that God saw us going astray, and decided to send us an enormous test to wake ourselves up from. There is hope. Muslims are getting better, but it is going to take time. The Civil rights movement in the US took a long time, and there are still struggles.

Inshallah, you can find a group of other converts and Muslims who share your experience and can relate to. There are good practicing Muslims out there, but unfortunately you have to look a lot harder to find them. If you are able to visit California, there is a wonderful community of Muslims there and the Zaytuna Institute founded by Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, who also converted to Islam. They teach classes, have lectures and speeches, and other activities for Muslims. He is one of the best Muslims leaders we have, and I don’t know where the American Muslim community would be without him. May Allah bless him for his efforts. I’ve been wanting to visit, but I haven’t been able to yet because of funds and time.

If you check out my Islam & Muslims section of links you can find a link to the Zaytuna Institute and other sites that might be helpful and supportive. Alhumdulilah you are reading the Quran – that is the best thing you can do and continue to do so. God is constantly testing us; those he loves the most he gives the greatest tests to. When we are having it hard, we turn to God more often and draw closer to Him, but when we are having it very easy, a lot of times we forget about God. It is not easy to be patient with the tests God gives us; that is something that takes a lifetime of struggle, and God knows it is hard to be patient, but that is why God rewards us greatly for our patience. You are in my prayers sister Gina. May Allah help you to find sincere Muslims. And may Allah guide this Muslim Ummah.

    Wa Salaam

  53. Is mail,
I wanted to leave Islam because of the behavior of Muslims, especially those you claim to be so righteous. I feel I do not fit in. I also feel westerners are not welcomed. Muslims are tribal and ethnic. They tend to group themselves by tribe, race, country, region and ethnic group. I asked myself how people who claim to could concentrate on Allah, me so narrow in their approach to life.
I have experienced and seen other western women be mistreated and used by Muslim men from other parts of the world. We are all equal in the eyes of Allah, but I think some Muslims forget this. Other religions also practice this double standard, but I expected more from Muslims, because Islam is a way of life. Muslims are supposed to submit to the will of Allah. They pray five times throughout the day. This is supposed to make them better human beings. I was born a Christian in the United States. I left Christianity because I believe Christianity had deviated from the true teaching of God i.e. dietary, oneness of God and other practices. It seems to me Islam is about outer appearance. You need a balance in your life. It not just about covering your body and hair, but about clean heart and treating people as you would want to be treated. Greed and selfishness exist in all religions. I put Muslims on a too high of a pedestal, when I seen the ugliness among them I was shock and disillusioned. I will pray to Allah for guidance. Surah Yasin is the heart of the Quran, listening to it makes me feel at peace. May Allah help us all.

Alhumdulilah, you felt better after listening to this boy recite the Quran. May Allah bless him and you. It is recommended to recite Surah Yasin everyday in the morning; it helps when you feel sad. If you can read it in Arabic that is excellent, but if you can’t, reading it in English is good. Also, reading the Quran during hardships and struggles, which all Muslims go through, and is a way for Allah to bring us closer to him, although many times we don’t realize it when we are being tested, helps and gives strength.

This is a translation of Surah Yasin in English

Sheikh Ghamdi recites Surah Yasin with subtitles which I’ve provided below. You can follow him by reciting after him or at least just listening to it. Listening to the Quran in Arabic has a special quality to it.
    Part 1
    Part 2

The month of Ramadan is drawing near and is the month of mercy. Duas are especially answered during that month, and so let Allah know you need help and strength from Him.

You can email me at anytime, if you need someone to talk with. My email is: nuralanur23@gmail.com
