Age of Jahiliyah

A blog of wide and varied interest, including Islam, Muslims, Poetry, Art and much more.

About Us

Welcome to the Age of Jahiliyah

This blog is run by three American Muslim women, who are still relatively new to blogging, but think this is the outlet to get a message across to humanity. Our focus is wide and varied and we will be hosting many different topics and features: Islam and Muslims, politics, genocide, wars, peak oil, 9/11, quotations, photos, Islamic art, etc.

Our job is to scout the Internet for information and other various items and so most of the blog will have information from other sources. Once in a while we will also have our own original writings, stories, plays and poems.

Jahiliyah translates to ‘Ignorance’ in English, and we do feel that we are living in an age of ignorance. Jahiliyah also refers to Arabian society before Islam. Many evils existed during that time including: tribal warfare, killing of female babies, the abuse and degradation of women, greed, racism, the abuse of the poor and orphans, etc.

Look at the world: wars, death, poverty, spiritual emptiness, racism, injustice, global warming, peak oil, and other disasters, which is the result of an improper application, an imbalance by human beings to the world we live in; it comes from trespassing the bounds that God placed on this earth.

There are certain laws governing the earth, and when humanity tends to ignore or alter these laws: either from arrogance, foolishness or blindness – an imbalance occurs.

We are living in the dark ages once again, or should we say Jahiliyah, although humanity appears to have progressed economically and scientifically. Economic and scientific advancement though does not in any way prove that we have progressed, when we are still waging war and inflicting death which has never been previously seen on this earth before.

We have modern weapons that can kill hundreds of thousands of people; weapons made of depleted uranium that deforms entire generations even after the weapons have retreated from the scene of carnage.

How can we think we have advanced when we are now facing an oil shortage because we did not know how to use our resources in a balanced way? We are not only running out of oil, but water and food.

How can we call ourselves advanced when we have polluted the very world we live and breathe in?

God gave us the role as caretakers of this world, but little did we understand the role given to each us. We were supposed to take care of this earth, shelter and nurture it, and receive the same from the earth in return.

Instead we harnessed all we could from the earth, and expected it to give back to us, but sadly the earth doesn’t have much more to give after being abused for so long.

We are the worst caretakers this world has ever seen: polluting our air and water, polluting our food with chemicals, polluting our bodies with uranium dust particles which travels the world over.

If we do not alter the destructive path we are traveling on, we could be faced with extinction, which is not going to come from God, but from our own selves.

The world is also spiritually empty. Working constantly and consuming at a rapid pace is not the ingredient for happiness. People have turned away from religion because of extreme individuals who claim to represent a religion.

Numerous misconceptions exist in our world, but the ones about religion has led to much of the disaster we encounter in the world today. People have turned away from God, and in the end have still not found the answers, although they thought by giving up God this would bring them happiness and a better world.

The current religion under attack is Islam. There are forces in the world, especially from the elites of society, who are working to destroy all religions entirely. In that way they can control and manipulate humanity and install themselves as godheads.

Why Islam is on the hit list today, is because in Islam each human being is a servant of God and not a servant to a country, an idea, drugs, money, power, fame, talent, another human being, etc.

This is a very dangerous to those who seek to make human beings slaves to a certain system; a system where the powerful few abuse, use and kill the people working under them. It keeps us slaves to constant buying, constant working, which is turns only leads to more emptiness.

We hope to use this blog to counter some of these misconceptions about Islam. We have a responsibility to God to deliver the correct message of Islam, and not the message coming from a few extremists who have hijacked Islam for their own evil purposes.

More importantly we are all human beings, living in the same world together and we want to see peace, balance and justice in the world for all humanity, no matter what religion or race we come from.

We are living in a crazy and dangerous world that is tittering on the brink of our own destruction and we want to do something about it. It is especially the responsibility of the youth of the world to make a stand and change things.

We must not give up hope or give into despair because of our current situation. As long as we are still living in this world, there is a chance to take a different path from the one we have been traveling on.

We hope this is our small way of showing a possible way to a different future.

But in order to tread another path, we must first start by educating ourselves about what is going on in the world, and sift through the lies and propaganda we receive from our news media on a daily basis. We hope to provide alternative news within this blog, and to also educate people about Islam.

Once we have the right tools in hand, education being the first, then we can begin to work effectively to change ourselves, our family, our group, our society and our world.

We hope to offer assistance in that first step of education.

Thank you for visiting and we hope that you check back often.

Salaam, Peace, Shalom

Mashaallah you all made a great blog that I found it thru a simple coincidence.
I believe that God create each individual that not only enjoy his /her life in this physical world, but also help others and ease their life by his / her talent or ability. Hopefully with these works/actions, our souls get enlightened and blessed so that Inshaalah go to the heaven that God promised in Quran.
I am an artist photographer that try to teach myself as well as others about different lessons that I see and feel with my observations thru my surroundings everyday. Therefore I create so many images that few like or dislike them. I give the messages thu my images with this hope that those who has not slept deeply wake up and DO the actions that God asked us to do.

I love your site. Intelligent , thoughtful, and most of all helpful.
    I want to throw this one thing out there though. Your statement;
.”Why Islam is on the hit list today, is because in Islam each human being is a servant of God and not a servant to a country, an idea, drugs, money, power, fame, talent, another human being, etc.”
The same is true of any person truly following their religion… those following good and not evil. It would be helpful if the people of Islam would stop seeing themselves as so individual in this matter. All those who follow God’s ways are on the hit list. All those who speak Truth that others do not want to hear, and who live in ways others do not want to discipline themselves to live. The people of Islam are not the only ones seeking to serve God and not the world, (i.e., drugs, money, power, fame, etc.)
I am happy to have found your site through a friend.

  17. May Allah bless you for your blogging in an enlightened direction! How is it that just those people (the Muslims) who might be expected to be best equipped (by Islamic sources and teaching) to be “guardians of the earth” (Khalifs) appear to be the least concerned about the imbalance of the environment? Yet some groups vociferously aspire to “re-establish the khilafah”. Most of the few Muslims I have encountered also involved in issues of the environment appear to be involved only as a platform for political self advancement in a non-Muslim context or country. Following a trend rather than setting the trend.
I have been actively engaged in environmental issues for 20 years and am sorry to say that I have found this to be so.
It seems that Muslims are too busy explaining to the world who they are not (terrorists) rather than seeking positive directions of guidance, balance, khilafah (values which are universal).

  36. My sister I read your blog and it said your relatively new to bloging. This is my first time.

Sister/s I have produced some artwork. There has been much propaganda about Islamic slavery over here in Britain amongst the black community. that is why I did it. It seems i am the only one who knows the truth. What I know is this: under all Islamic regime there was no need to capture Africans for slavery. Because there was no industrial type of production laboured by slaves. There was ample poor natives to do the maidens work and helping hands within the nations. Slaves were not just black there were multi racial. black people had white slaves and slaves could become rich and even Kings and rule over their former masters. Islamic lands had always houses refugees from Europe specially in the 8th century when Europe was being forcibly christenized and than again around the time of Christopher Columbus when if you were not a christian you were burned alive in public square. Thus slavery consisted of refugees from Europe. Mongol s and Turks too bought new immigration and salves to the Muslim lands. All Muslim countries were multi cultural. I have produced Artwork and I painted slaves who became Kings, extremely powerful and heroes of Islamic lands please see my Art work. Should anyone want to organise an exhibition to show this awesome fact to the non Muslims people. If you contact me through http://www.xanam.co.uk . look under shopping and art. Altogether there will be 22 pieces of artwork. I will post to you the artwork please let me know.

  60. Peaceful greetings to you, Tomas!

Thanks for visiting and your excellent and insightful comments. I understood everything that you said, Tomas, so don’t worry about any misunderstanding. We are all the children of God, and indeed I pray for all of us.

The world is indeed in a spiritual and physical crisis. Together though we can strive towards peace by recognizing the power and love of God for all human creation, and how he has commanded us to stay within the limits, and not to exceed the boundaries, or an imbalance will occur.

“The depth of our steps is defined by our love.”

    Beautifully expressed Tomas 🙂

Thanks again for your comments and visit.

current situation is indeed the alarming. In spite of that we have met and hear each other. Glory to God.

“… each human being is a servant of God and not a servant to a country, an idea, drugs, money, power, fame, talent, another human being, etc.”

    Yes, yes and yes.

I didnt pray for you, but pray FOR US.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us endure in love and help not to fall in a trap of who is wrighter of us. Each of us must respond personally by recognizing YOU and YOUR love in the eyes of each other.

My writing with a vocabulary in hand threatens to sow lots of unintended misunderstandings, but I know for sure that

The depth of our steps is defined by our love.

And I am very happy to come to this blog, to meet the people who recognize as the mess we have created, as the reason of the confusion. We can either obey God and rejoice at His Peace, or sink in the cruelest wars of world politics.
There is no matter what ideology is kept by our government, each of us must respond personally. And I pray not for myself and not for you but for us. We all the same children of God

  64. Salaam Alakium brother,

Thanks for the encouraging comments. You have made some good points. We do feel that we are living in a period of much darkness, but as you noted there is light still.

Alhumdulilah there are also people who are coming out against the Iraq war, and that is a light amid the chaos.

In a way, while our blog statement appears very doom oriented, we are trying to say that by knowledge of what is going on around us, and educating ourselves about the things of which we are ignorant, that this will be light, and help us all.

Thank you for reminding us to always remain hopeful, and inshallah we hope our blog is a small light among the other lights in the darkness.

Thank you for your good comments.

    Dear Sisters,

    Assalam o alaikum!

I would like to congratulate you on this wonderful step which you have taken. I pray that Allah showers His Mercy on you people and gives u success.

I really like ur ideas, but would like to say a few things about them:

    a) Why do you think we need to view the world as being in ignorance? The reason why I ask this is that the belief which we formulate about the reality, are very curcial as these beliefs determine what institutions( or rules) we formulate. Why do we need to veiw the world in such a negative fashion? I agree with most facts u present, and true they show all the signs of darkness, but even in this darkness there is light. – one such example being the numerous efforts by people from all walks of life to contribute positively- were there is global warming and unfair trade , there are also enrivonmentalists- where there are capitalists there are marxists too. What i mean to say is that if we take these things into account then the institutions( or rules or solutions) which we try to make would also be different. This we can work with the people , who are the signs of light and be much more efficient and Inshallah successful.

    Wassalam

  66. Salaam,

The 10th Avatar of Vishnu sounds similar to what Muslims believe about the Mahdi coming, and bringing justice and blessings back to the earth. We are supposed to purify our hearts before his arrival, and that is a life long struggle for every Muslim. Inhabiting good character traits, and leaving the bad behind.

I think people are realizing that we are living in darkness; they are slowly waking up to the fact, and I think people want it to change. But maybe they don’t know how at the moment, or they don’t have enough strength to change it yet.

Women are taking over in many roles in the world. For Muslim women they are leading ahead of the men in the revival of Islam. I think there is a large imbalance in the world, because the contributions of females was so largely ignored, but hopefully that is changing.

Thanks for your comments and continuing to visit.

  67. Supposedly, I heard some astrologists and other Hindus saying that we are now on the edge of entering of the Dvapara Yuga because life expectency is increasing, illness and disease is decreasing, and we are becoming more aware of the darkness around us and the corruption that exists – and thus has always existed – in government. Women again are coming to power. Science and invention, especially those that shorten the passge of time while in travel, are abundant. Hindu teaching, though, says that this will not to pass until Kalki, the 10th Avatar of Vishnu, comes and begins topurify the actions of people.

Bismillahir Rahmannir Raheem ~ In the Name of Allah Almighty, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

      Assalamu’alaikum, Shalom and Greetings.

I am a single Syed Muslim male 43 from Pune, India. Though I was born into an Ismaili Muslim family, I consider myself as a Muslim only and thus do not believe in any sects. I try to follow pure Islam and do NOT indulge in any kind of direct or indirect shirk.

Over the years Allah the Most High has made me to have major spiritual and mystical experiences which seems to be directly connected to the return of Jesus Christ or Hadrat Isa (as) / Mahdi / Kalki Avatar / etc as the world savior.

Based on my personal understanding of the esoteric meanings of these experiences, I am pasting below an article along with copy of the email I received in response to these experiences.

When Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam) first mentioned to the Meccans that he had meet Arch Angel Gabriel (as) and that he was made the Rasul, most people thought that either he had gone insane or was possessed by evil spirits or was lying, etc. So if people accuse me of the same, out of ignorance, I am not at all surprised.

Abu Huraira used to say: “I acquired two vessels from the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihe Wa Sallam). One of them I published, but if I published the other my throat would be cut.”

I am not sending you this email to make any direct or indirect claims but with the only honest intention to reveal to mankind the Devine plans of Allah or God the Most High for world peace.

      With love and blessings,

      Brother Naushad Somji.

      Dear Brother Naushad Somji,

Thanks for your kind mail. Certainly you are a blessed soul. I am very happy to read about the experiences you have undergone. Strange are the ways of the Almighty and He alone knows about His scheme of things. Nothing is impossible for Him to do. Yes He can make a person a Messiah in one night as He did with the Prophet. My personal opinion is that one should leave oneself in His hands and pray Him for His grace. He alone Knows what He wants to do.

I have read your book completely. It appears that the God Almighty has chosen you for some special work. The mystery would unfold in due course. I pray that you prove His worthy instrument. It also appears to me that you should pray “Thy Will Be Done”. I am sure He would reveal His Will and lead you to the work for which He has so kindly chosen you. My prayers for you. May the Great Masters help you in your mission.

      With Kind Regards,

      R K Gupta

The scriptures of many religions speak of a coming leader who will consummate the fulfillment of the divine will on earth. He will manifest in his person the righteousness and compassion of God, and he will bring about the final defeat of evil, and establish the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. This person who will be specially chosen by God for this mission and empowered to accomplish it. Prophecies that a leader will come and accomplish such a mission are nearly universal.

Religions call him by various names: Jews long for the promised Messiah; for Christians the Messiah is Jesus of Nazareth, who has already come and ascended to heaven but will reappear (perhaps in a new guise) at his Second Coming. Muslims also expect the second advent of Jesus, who will come as a Muslim Imam, and among Shiite Muslims there are various expectations of a future Imam Mahdi. Buddhist sutras prophesy the coming of the Maitreya Buddha; Vaishnavite Hindu scriptures prophesy the future descent of an avatar named Kalki; Zoroastrian scriptures prophesy the coming of the Saoshyant; and some Confucian texts speak of a future True Man who will finally bring peace to the world by perfectly instituting the Way of Confucius.

In 1997 when I was 30, Hadrat Imam Ali (as) appeared to me in resurrected form at the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chisty (ra) at Ajmershareef. He looked into my eyes, smiled and went away. This opened my heart and my spiritual journey began. I started to isolate myself from people and my personality changed completely. Thereafter I experienced the divine knowledge of Allah gradually entering my heart and soul and I became very religious.

Since then I have been meeting many dead Islamic Saints who have also appeared to me in their resurrected forms.A few years after my experience at Ajmeershareef, Hadrat Syed Badruddin Shah Hussani (rh) appeared to me also in resurrected form. He prayed over a glass of water and made me drink it, thus making me his mureed or disciple. He came to India some 1000 years ago and was martyred. His head is buried at the Holy Shrine in the jungle near the town of Pen, in the state of Maharashtra. He nevertheless continued his fight for the cause of Allah despite the head being severed from his body. His body is buried in the town of Parandha in Maharashtra, an eight hour drive from Pen.

Two months later, Hazrat Syed Khwaja Muinuddin Chisty (ra) appeared to me in resurrected form. He gave me a fruit to eat and said that he was giving me the Khilafaat, the position as leader and spiritual master. I was told by him that I have a pure soul and that I will over the years work as a guru for people of all relegions and they will call me a Messiah then.

Of all my meetings with the Holy men of Islam, the most remarkable was with Prophet Mohammad (saw) who appeared to me along with Hadrat Imam Ali (as) and three more men whom I did not recognize. Prophet Mohammad (saw) led us all in afternoon prayers, and then we had lunch, all eating from the same big plate. After the lunch as the Prophet (saw) was leaving he shook hands with me with a big smile and I kissed his hands respectfully.

This could be connected to the awaited Mahdi.

“The promised Mahdi will be among my family. God will make the provisions for his emergence within a single night “…… (Islam. Ibn Majah, Sahih, Vol. 2, P. 519)

Lated on I got baptised by a Christian Preist and during this the Preist saw a bright light descending on my person and then entering my soul as a small flame of light. Even I felt something powerful entering my heart that time. Thereafter major spiritual changes began to change place with me. There are at times I could do the kind of healing that Jesus Christ did during his time. Also, I have got the power to forgive sins and whenever I viist graveyards thousands of souls would approach me for prayers to have thier sins forgiven. They would not leave me unless I prayed for them. When Pope John Paul 2 died, his soul came to me in the astral body and asked me to pray for him. He said master master please help me. Few days later on when President Yasser Arafat died, his soul also approached me and he said that he did not want anything for himself but rather he asked me to help his fellow humans in Palestine who are in great trouble.

This could be connected the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

“What would be your situation if the Son of Mary (Jesus) descends upon you and your Imam (Mahdi) is from among you”? ………..(Islam. Bukhari, kitabul-Anbiya, Chapter Nuzul Isa bin Maryam)

Two years ago I suddenly got a pull to visit the Holy Shrine of Hadrat Shirdi Sai Baba (rh). Since then Baba has been guiding and protecting me and he calls me his son. During one such visit at the Temple of Hadrat Shirdi Sai Baba (rh) I saw a white ball of light approaching me from the right side during night aarti. When the aarti ritual was over, this white ball of light moved away. Recently Baba has informaed me that this ball has been put into my heart by him and because of this over the period of time I will become spiritually one with God the Most High an Avatar !!

This could be connected to the Kalki Avtaar .

“Whenever the Law declines and the purpose of life is forgotten, I manifest myself on earth. I am born in every age to protect the good, to destroy evil, and to reestablish the Law” ………………… ( Hinduism. Bhagavad Gita 4.7-8.)

      * So all these 3 powers ~ Mahdi, Messiah and Avtaar combined make up the world savior.

My case is in some ways similar to that of Prophet Younas (as) as mentioned in the Holy Quran. He was called by Allah the Most High for a divine mission but initially chose to run away from it. Many times over the years I too have tried to avoid getting too deeply into spiritual and religious things and have tried my level best to lead a normal life. But every time I tried to do that, Allah the Most High would pull me back into it and this has happened several times during the past few years. Since I could not run away from Allah’s call, I had no option but to submit humbly to it.

      ——————————————————————————————–

      * The world savior ~ Mahdi / Messiah / Kalki / etc that humanity eagerly awaits :

The Mahdi / Messiah / Kalki / etc is destined to save the mankind from the rigors of today. The day to day lowering of human values, humans behaving more like a vicious animal (it is ironic sometimes it is difficult to distinguish human beings from animals), the breaking up of relationships between the family members, between communities and on larger scale the countries has become the order of the day. Such a one fully prepared and powered to address the ills of today head-on shall be known as world savior … one who shall annihilate the ills of today and make the humanity step forward towards a new golden era… the Satyuga (the golden period).

The savior shall be one who makes dharma or pure relegion prevail over numerous other corrupted religions followed world-wide. To uplift mankind from existing level is possible only for one person… a true incarnate of Almighty God himself. None other than an incarnate of the omnipotent can achieve this feat. One who brings all countries on a common platform… can only be the deliverer! The world savior would also be termed as Yuga avatar… the starter of a Yuga (a new era or golden age). The society as of today awaits the coming of this savior ! Call him the Messiah of the masses or the downtrodden denizens of the society… coming of this world savior would be a boon to the mankind at large!

I read your passage and even many Hindus will agree with you: in Hindu philosophy, we live in the era of ignorance, known as the Kai Yuga, the Age of Darkness, which is the fourth of of four great ages in which our World in all its form is farthest from God. Despite the vast differences between the Ibrahimic and Dharmic religions, at least many of them agree we are in dark times.
